My childhood nickname of “Bossy Becky” is now being embraced to the full, as I use a sprinkling of “tough love” to challenge you to be the best version of yourself, so your business benefits as a result. Please don’t panic about the “bossy” part though, you are in safe hands. I have the experience and empathy to understand exactly what it is like to start and build a business; I have started, built, and sold three businesses in Mexico and this is my second business in the UK!
INTERNATIONAL CORNISH
Who we are and how we work is a reflection of our background and experiences. I was born in Jamaica and grew up in a mixed culture household (Cornish and Guyanese), and spent many years working abroad. A friend affectionally introduces me as being, “International Cornish”. After Uni I had a burning desire to learn French, so I headed there and worked as an au pair and waitress for a year, leaving speaking fluently, with a love of brie cheese and knowing how to pronounce all the wine bottle labels!
INTERNATIONAL LIVING
The travel bug was truly embedded, so I continued to work abroad for the next 20 years enjoying working and having fun in Spain, the Dominican Republic, France, Bahamas, Grand Cayman and Mexico.
CORPORATE LIFE & PROPERTY IN THE UK
Returning to the UK, I worked for a global marine safety company and travelled frequently to Latin America and the Caribbean for tradeshows, public speaking and client meetings. This was interesting and fun, but with lockdown and the travel ban, my desire to learn something new kicked in.
As I had loved my property business in Mexico I decided to learn everything I could about property in the UK. This led me to connect with some incredibly inspiring people, who have now become friends. My husband and I successfully converted a run down, derelict house into a stunning co-living home for 5 professionals in Cornwall. We continue with this business, Lotus Property Services Cornwall, and I co-host a monthly property networking meeting in Truro, where anyone interested in property is welcome.
Property investing takes time though and my desire to help, support and challenge people to grow their businesses was met by working as a Business Coach and Mentor, and receiving qualifications for the same, together with being a Certified Business Strategist.
